The Balance Bird (AKA the Bala Bird)

$10.00

Bala Bird is a 3dprinted Inverted mobile sculpture made in Canada. The base is 5 inches around and is topped by three pieces of sculpted resin that are not attached to each other except through gravity, so the first unit sits on a tiny indentation on the nose of the second unit and the second unit in turn sits in a little indentation on the nose of the third unit which sits on top of the base.

It is important to be extremely careful when removing support structure from these printed parts as they are fragile and can snap easily. Bala Bird: 3d printed in Anycubic eco-clear resin on an Anycubic photon 6k

Most people have heard of a mobile. They hang them above baby’s cribs, and they are usually suspended by strings or some other way of hanging from a higher point. The bottom tiers are balanced, and they are attached by strings to the next tier up which would not be balanced if it did not have the lower tier to keep it balanced. A sort of bottom-up approach to balance.

The Bala Bird is an inverted mobile sculpture giving it a top-down approach to balance. Similarly, though it relies on gravity to give us the entertainment we have grown to expect from such an apparatus. All it needs us to do is to introduce some Chaos.

There is something satisfying in watching something recover from a state of imbalance and chaos to return to its state of balance through positive dynamic stability. It makes one think that no matter how much we may seem to disturb the balance in the universe there exists a system wherein everything will balance itself out eventually.
